Deciding on which tattoo you want is a very serious decission - you can't change your mind afterwards, so please take your time and give everything due consideration. Some people prefer to get their design in a temporary tattoo to wear first - see if they really like it on them - they always look different on the computer screen or in a book. This approach is highly recomended. Good luck in finding the design that is perfect for YOU!

The great thing about getting a tattoo is that you can absolutely get what ever your heart desires. Of course more people are a little more original than some people. So this leads me to inform everyone what are the most common tattoos that men and women get.
It seems that women gravitate towards pretty things like the all famous butterfly, star or flower. The reason behind this is women seem to think that having something beautiful anywhere on their body will help add attraction to the overall appearance. I am happy to report that I do not fall into this category, neither of my tats are of a butterfly, star or a flower.
Men on the other hand are a little bit more complex, their reasoning for getting certain tattoos all comes back to their masculinity. For example, a lot of men will get tattoos of some sort of animal. They think that the characteristic of the animal such as strength, courage, and power will be bestowed onto them now that they have them tattooed on their skin. The most common animal’s that men get tattooed on them are lions, tigers, dragons or snakes. Strangely enough I fall into this category. I have a tattoo of a lion’s head on my left shoulder. There is a personal reason for me getting this lion tattooed on me, but I also liked what the lion stood for, The King of the Jungle. I will admit that whenever I am feeling weak or down about something I will go to a mirror and look at my lion and remind myself that I am a strong women and I can get through whatever I’m going through.
So if you are thinking about getting a tattoo and want to get something that most people don’t have then stay away from the butterfly, star, flower, lions, tigers, dragons and snakes. Of course if you want to get one of this then try to add you own twist to it so it will be a little bit more original.

My wife and I were out for dinner the other night and our waitress was an attractive looking young woman who I judged to be in her early twenties. She was very personable and knowledgeable, but she was wearing a short blouse that revealed her midriff and showed a tattoo just above her rear end, and, on her front, there appeared to be something drawn from her belly down to her public area (sorry I couldn’t verify this for you). I’m sure she thought this was all rather attractive and I must admit it caught my eye, but frankly I was disappointed that a charming young woman found it necessary to defile her body in order to get someone’s attention.
I’ve never understood the need to paint the human body with tattoos, Some say its nothing more than an example of self-expression. Actually, I think its more of a cry for attention than anything else. Some people try to hide their tattoos, but more and more people today proudly display their body art, regardless of the symbolism or what is printed on them. To me, its kind of like sitting next to a kid at a traffic light with his music blaring. I don’t know who he is trying to impress other than himself. It most certainly isn’t me.
When I was growing up, I only knew of two men who had tattoos on their arms, my uncle and my barber. Both got their tattoos while serving in the military, but spent several years thereafter trying to have them removed as they found them to be an embarrassment among their friends as they grew older. I’ve also met a couple of people who survived the concentration camps of World War II and now bear identification numbers tattooed on their arms. In other words, tattoos are not something my generation or those that preceded me hold in high regard. But today’s younger generation doesn’t think this way and whimsically have their bodies painted at the drop of a hat. Recently, a group of underage girls from the local high school were caught trying to get tattooed at a local parlor (down here in Florida, minors cannot be tattooed without a parent’s or guardian’s permission).
Years ago, tattoo artists struggled to make ends meet. But with the recent wave of tattoo popularity, they have been elevated to near celebrity status. Heck, there has even been a reality show featuring tattoo artists on A&E. I find interviewing people painted with a lot of tattoos and body pierced like a porcupine to be rather amusing. They certainly do not command any credibility with me, but the kids sure seem to love them.
I guess I have always equated tattoos to a person’s intelligence level. The more tattoos they have, the lower the IQ they appear to have. I don’t know where I get this image from; maybe it was from watching a few prison documentaries where the inmates are interviewed, all of which are covered in tattoos. Somehow I don’t find such people rather credible, nor are they anyone I want to be associated with, which is probably why I’ll never get a tattoo. But then again, I guess I’m showing my age.

Tattoos are the ultimate in self expression. They make a statement about who you are and what you are about. Different tattoo designs have different meanings. Adaptations of various designs can add your own stamp to the body art so you can make your own statement.
Tribal Tattoos
Symbolizes belonging. The Tribal designs were by far the most popular, coming in with approximately one third of requests. In the past, tribal body art identified different tribes and were very important to the identity of the tribe and the individual. Today, tribal body art is an appealing fashion statement, that allow people to show off their individuality combined with a bit of mystery. These tats use aggressive dark lines in jagged symmetrical shapes and are most common in black and skin tones but can also be infused with color to brighten the overall look.
Stars
A symbol of protection and guidance. They are popular because they can go anywhere on the body and can be any size you want. They are also popular because they are timeless. Compass and nautical stars were very popular amongst sailors as they relied on stars to guide them on their journeys, so they used the tattoos as luck. These days, the meaning of stars depends on the number of points it has. The most popular places for the star designs are around the shoulder, ankles and navel.
Angels
Symbol of devotion, spirituality and faith. Angels are popular because they are very symbolic, representing many values such as peace, spirituality, and protection. Some of the more popular tattoo designs relate to Religion and Spirituality (due to angels being seen as the link between heaven and earth), Love, and the Struggle between good and evil.
Crosses
Strong religious symbolism. Popular as a symbol of faith, belief and hope. Crosses are popular because they can be effectively combined with other designs. The cross tattoo is very versatile because they look good most places on the body and small or big.
Wings
Symbol of spirituality and freedom. Wings are associated with angels, representing protection and guidance from above. Wings are also associated with butterflies, birds, dragons, fairies and a host of other animals. Wings represent freedom for many people and rising above problems. Some wing designs spread right across the back, which look very impressive. A popular place for women to get a wing tattoo design is on the lower back.

Well it is another Wednesday so that means it is celebrity tattoo time. This week I picked Drew Barrymore because she hasa collection of 6 tattoos at the moment. But Drew has admitted that if the mood strikes her she hasn’t ruled out the possibility of getting another one.
Drew’s tattoos consist of a bouquet of flowers on the left side of her hip. On her stomach she has a butterfly tattoo which is probably her most well known tattoo. She also have a very small black crescent moon on her big toe. On the lower part of her right leg she has a fairly large tattoo of a cross with vines surrounding it. And lastly she has two angles on her lower back. One has Drew’s mother’s name “Jaid” written under it and the other has an ex-boyfriend’s name “James” under it.
Like most tattooed people you fall in love with your tattoos and love to talk and share them with people. Well Drew is certainly one of those people. Drew was asked in an interview what she loved most about her body and guess what she said? Her tattoos. Here’s what she said:
“I love my tattoos, which are like permanent make-up. I have an angel on my hip, a butterfly under my navel, a Celtic cross on my calf and a blue moon on my toe.
I will not have any of my body parts pierced, though – that scares the hell out of me.”
If you have a suggestion of a celebrity you would like me to cover then just let me know.
